Reaction Steps
A solution of 5.00 g (31 mM) of 4-phenylpiperidine, 8.75 g (31 mM) of N-(4-bromobutyl)phthalimide, and 6.5 ml (46.6 mM) of triethylamine in acetonitrile (30 ml) was refluxed under nitrogen for 62 hours. The solvent was then distilled off under reduced pressure and the residue was diluted with water and extracted with chloroform. The organic layer was washed with saturated aqueous solution of sodium chloride and dried over MgSO4. The resulting crude product was purified by column chromatography (methanol-ethyl acetate 5-10%) to provide the title compound.
