A solution of 0.416 g of (E)-2(R)-[1(S)-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)-4-phenyl-3-butenyl]-2′-isobutyl-4-methylvalerohydrazide and 0.282 g of 2-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)acetic acid in 4 ml of dimethylformamide was treated at room temperature under nitrogen with 0.461 g of 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-carbodiimide hydrochloride. The mixture was stirred for 0.5 hours at room temperature and evaporated. The residue was dissolved in ethyl acetate and washed with 5% aqueous sodium hydrogen carbonate solution and saturated sodium chloride solution, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulphate and evaporated to give 0.630 g of (E)-2(R)-[1(S)-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)-4-phenyl-3-butenyl]-2′-isobutyl-4-methyl-2′-[2-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)acetyl]valerohydrazide in the form of an off-white foam.
