1-(2-Toluoylmethyl) -2-oxo-3-tert-butoxycarbonylamino-5-(2-thenoyl)-8-methyl-1,3,4,5-tetrahydro-2H-1,5-benzodiazepine(l.0 g) was dissolved in 4N HCl-dioxane (10 ml), the mixture was stirred at 60° C. for one hour. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure, neutralized with saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate, and extracted with methylene chloride. The organic layer was washed with water and saturated brine, and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure, to thereby obtain 0.81 g of the title compound as a light yellow crystal (Yield: 100%).
