Reaction Steps
A mixture of p-perfluoroalkylbenzoic acid (8.1 g, 20 20 mmol) prepared in (a) and thionyl chloride (35 ml) is refluxed for 3 hours. Distillation of the reaction mixture affords p-(3-trifluoromethylperfluorobutyl)benzoyl chloride (5.8 g), b.p. 79°-81° C./0.8 mm Hg.
