Procedure
2,6-Dichlorobenzoyl isocyanate (1.4 grams) was reacted with 4-methyl-5-phenyl-2-pyridylamine (0.9 gram) in dichloromethane. There was an immediate exotherm and spontaneous reflux. The reaction mixture was then stirred at ambient temperature but no precipitate formed. After the mixture was stripped, the residue was recrystallized from ethanol yielding 1.0 gram of tan crystals, m.p. 210°-214° C. The identity of the desired product was confirmed by NMR.
