Procedure

of 4-trifluoromethyl-4'-benzyloxy-α-ethyl-benzhydrol are dissolved in 270 ml. of benzene, and the solution is hydrogenated in the presence of 13.5 g. of a 10% palladium-on-charcoal catalyst. When the uptake of the calculated amount of hydrogen is complete (about 80 minutes), the catalyst is filtered off, benzene is distilled off under reduced pressure, and the residue is crystallized from a mixture of ethyl acetate and n-hexane. 19 g. of the named compound are obtained, melting at 126° to 127° C.
