2.37 g of 1-benzyl 3-tert.butyl 2-(5-bromo-2-phthalimidovaleryl)-1,3-pyridazinedicarboxylate (2 diastereomers) were dissolved in 25 ml of ethanol and the solution was hydrogenated at atmospheric pressure over 50 mg of 10% palladium-on-carbon until the uptake of hydrogen had ceased. The catalyst was removed by filtration and the filtrate was evaporated to give 1.79 g (96%) of tert.butyl 2-(5-bromo-2-phthalimidovaleryl)-3-pyridazinecarboxylate (2 diastereomers) in the form of an oil.
