Procedure

1-(6-bromohexanoyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline, (4.9 g), prepared in a manner similar to that set forth in Preparation 1, was refluxed, using a dry ice condenser, in a saturated solution of dimethylamine in ethylene glycol (46 ml). After 45 minutes the solution was cooled and added to dilute aqueous potassium hydroxide. The resultant solution was extracted with ether, and the extract was washed, dried and evaporated to yield as an oil 1-(6-dimethylaminohexanoyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline.
