A mixture of 8 g of 1-[2-(4,5,10,11-tetrahydro-1H-dibenzo[a,d]cyclohepten-5-yl)ethyl]pyrrolidine maleate, 20 ml of 3N sodium hydroxide and 50 ml of ether is shaken until two clear phases result. After separation of the aqueous phase, the ethereal solution is dried over magnesium sulfate and evaporated. There is obtained crystalline 1-[2-(4,5,10,11-tetrahydro-1H-dibenzo[a,d]cyclohepten-5-yl)ethyl]pyrrolidine of melting point 57°-58.5°. The melting point rises to 61°-63° after recrystallization from low-boiling petroleum ether at -25°.
