Procedure
To 350 ml of dioxane, 30 g of Z-Ala-Phe-Gly-OEt was added, followed by addition of 70 ml of lN-NaOH. The reaction solution was dissolved at room temperature. After one hour's reaction, almost all the dioxane was removed by distillation, followed by neutralization with 70 ml of lN-HCl. The resulting mixture was well extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was dried over MgSO4 and the solvent was removed by distillation to give carbobenzoxy-alanyl-phenylalanyl-glycine having a melting point of 168°-171° C. and [α]D25 =-20.1° (C=1.0, DMF) in yield of 27.0 g (96%).
