A solution of 1.8 g of [[8-acetyl-7-[2-[2-[2-(4-acetyl-3-hydroxy-2-propylphenoxy)ethoxy]ethoxy]ethoxy]-2-naphthalenyl]oxy]acetic acid methyl ester and 31 ml of 1N sodium hydroxide in 60 ml of methanol was stirred at reflux for 1 hour. The methanol was removed in vacuo and the aqueous solution was acidified to pH3. The gummy precipitate was extracted with methylene chloride, washed with water, dried (magnesium sulfate) and concentrated in vacuo to give an oil which was triturated with ether to yield 1.56 g, m.p. 110°-111° C. (89%) of [[8-acetyl-7-[2-[2-[2-(4-acetyl-3-hydroxy-2-propylphenoxy)ethoxy]ethoxy]ethoxy]-2-naphthalenyl]oxy]acetic acid.
