Procedure

(R)-3-(5-Chloro-1,3-dioxo-1,3-dihydro-isoindol-2-yl)-pyrrolidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (0.200 g, 0.57 mmol) was dissolved in ether and cooled to 0° C. and LiAlH4 (2.85 mL, 2.8 mmol) was added dropwise, followed by AlCl3 (0.380 g, 2.8 mmol). The solution was allowed to stir at 0° C. for 1½ h and then slowly quenched with water and extracted with ethyl acetate (3×). The organic were collected together and dried over Mg2SO4, filtered and evaporated in vacuo, to yield the title compound (0.076 g, 41%) without further purification. ESI-MS m/z: 323 (M+1), retention time 1.27.
