A solution of 2(R)-amino-3-cyclopropylmethylsulfanylpropan-1-ol (3.2 g, 20.0 mmol), prepared as described in Example 2, Steps 1 and 2 above, and trifluoroacetaldehyde methyl hemiacetal (2.6 g, 20.0 mmol) in toluene (20 mL) was heated at reflux with Dean Stark trapping of water for 24 h. The reaction mixture was concentrated to give 4-cyclopropylmethylsulfanylmethyl-2-trifluoromethyloxazolidine (4.18 g) as a pale yellow oil.
