| Product | Methyl 2-(3-bromophenyl)acetate | HCID 11746402 | 967% |
Reaction Steps
Acetyl chloride (0.7 mL, 9.3 mmol) was slowly added to a solution of (3-bromo-phenyl)acetic acid (20.0 g, 93 mmol) in methanol (500 mL) at 0° C. under nitrogen and the reaction was allowed to warm gradually to room temperature over a period of 5 hours. The solvent was removed in vacuo and the residual oil was re-dissolved in dichloromethane, dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound as a colourless oil (20.6 g). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): δ: 3.59 (2H, s), 3.70 (3H, s), 7.17-7.24 (2H, m), 7.37-7.45 (2H, m); LRMS ESI m/z 253 [M+Na]+
