Procedure

Compound I-23 was prepared according to the general method described above in Scheme 1. A stirred mixture of 8-methyl-4′-methoxyflavone (200.0 mg, 0.75 mmol), Lawesson's reagent (182.3 mg, 0.45 mmol) and anhydrous toluene (4.0 mL) was refluxed under N2 for 1.5 hr. The solvent was removed under vacuum and the residue was purified by silica gel chromatography (20% ethyl acetate/hexane) to give 2-(4-Methoxy-phenyl)-8-methyl-chromene-4-thione (160.0 mg, 75.5% yield) as a red solid. Thione was used in next step without further purification. LC/MS: (M+H) 283.1. LC/Method A/8.967 min, 90.0% purity by area %.
