To a solution of 9H-fluoren-9-ylmethyl 3-[[(tert-butoxycarbonyl)amino]methyl]-2-isobutyl-4-(4-methylphenyl)-6-quinolinylcarbamate (1.28 g, 2.0 mmol) in N,N-dimethylformamide (20 ml) was added piperidine (1 ml), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hr. The reaction mixture was poured into water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with saturated brine, and dried over anhydrous magnesium-sulfate. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography to give tert-butyl [6-amino-2-isobutyl-4-(4-methylphenyl)-3-quinolinyl]methylcarbamate (0.81 g, yield 96.4%).
