N-Methyl-N-[1-(tetrahydro-2H-pyran-4-ylmethyl)-2-(trifluoromethyl)-1H-benzimidazol-5-yl]acetamide (3.18 g, 8.95 mmol) was dissolved in hydrochloric acid (37%, 60 mL) and then heated overnight at 95° C. After concentration, the residue was treated with 20 mL of 2N NaOH, extracted with EtOAc (4×50 mL). The combined organic phases were washed with brine (20 mL) and dried over Na2SO4. After evaporation, 2.80 g (100%) of a purple white solid was obtained as the title product, which was used directly for Step H. MS (ESI) (M+H)+=314.20.
