Reaction Steps

To a 0° C., stirred solution of trans-2-hydroxymethyl-3,6-dihydro-2H-pyran-3-ol (OA g, 2.84 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (40 ml) under an Argon atmosphere was added imidazole (0.231 g, 3.4 mmol) followed by TBSCl (0.428 g, 3.4 mmol). The resulting mixture was stirred for 1H at 0° C. The reaction mixture was washed with water (10 ml×2) and brine (10 ml). The organic phase was dried over anhydrous Na2SO4 The solvent was removed in vacuo and the crude product purified by flash chromatography (25-40% EtOAc in hexane).
