Procedure

To a solution of trans-5-allyloxy-2,2-dimethyl-4-vinyl-[1,3]dioxane (300 mg, 1.52 mmol) in dry CH2Cl2 (10 mL) was added bis-(tricyclohexylphosphine)benzylidine ruthenium (IV) chloride (125 mg, 0.15 mmol). The mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for ca. 8H, filtered through filter paper and concentrated in vacuo to 1 mL. The residue was purified by flash chromatography with 5% EtOAc-hexane
