Procedure

1.21 mL (0.00121 mol) of 1N sodium hydroxide are added to 440 mg (0.0011 mol) of methyl [1-methoxy-3-(3-methoxy-4-nitrobenzoyl)-2-methylindolizin-6-yl]carboxylate (obtained in Example 10) in 10 mL of methanol and the medium is stirred at room temperature overnight. The reaction medium is concentrated under vacuum and the residue is taken up in water and ethyl acetate. The aqueous phase is separated by decantation and then acidified with 1.21 mL of 1N hydrochloric acid. The precipitate formed is filtered, washed with water and dried. 280 mg of an orange-coloured solid are obtained.
