Using a method substantially in accordance with the method of 5-amino-4-cyano-3-(2′methylsulfanyl-biphenyl-4-yl)-thiophene-2-carboxylic acid ethyl ester starting with the compound 5-amino-4-cyano-3(4-iodo-phenyl)-thiophene-2-carboxylic acid ethyl ester and 2-(cyano)phenylboronic acid gives the title compound: 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.81-7.44 (m, 8H), 5.29 (s, 2H), 4.16 (q, 2H, J=7.2 Hz), 1.17 (t, 3H, J=7.3 Hz), MS found (M−1) 372.0 and (M+1)+NH3 391.0.
