3-Butyl-2-(4-fluorophenyl)-1-naphthalenol (166) (0.25 g, 0.83 mmol) and 4-fluorobenzaldehyde was heated with Cs2CO3 in DMSO at 100° C. to give 0.26 g (78%) of the title compound (167) as a colorless viscous oil. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): δ 0.78 (t, J=7.3 Hz, 3H), 1.20-1.30 (m, 2H), 1.40-1.50 (m, 2H), 2.56 (t, J=7.9 Hz, 2H), 6.68 (d, J=8.6 Hz, 2H), 6.95 (t, J=8.7 Hz, 2H), 7.06-7.14 (m, 2H), 7.40 (t, J=7.6 Hz, 1H), 7.51 (t, J=7.2 Hz, 1H), 7.63 (d, J=8.6 Hz, 2H), 7.71 (s, 1H), 7.77 (d, J=8.5 Hz, 1H), 7.87 (d, J=8.2 Hz, 1H), 9.81 (s, 1H). LCMS (ESI): m/z 399 (M+H)+.
