| Role | Name | HCID | Charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reactant | Hydrochloric Acid | HCID 313 | — |
| Reactant | Ethyl 2-[(2,6-dichloropyridin-3-yl)oxy]propanoate | HCID 12906172 | — |
| Solvent | Sodium Hydroxide | HCID 14798 | — |
| Product | 2-[(2,6-Dichloropyridin-3-yl)oxy]propanoic acid | HCID 12906173 | 61.8% |
Reaction Steps
105 g of 2-[(2,6-dichloro-3-pyridyl)oxy]propionic acid ethyl ester was refluxed with 550 ml of 1 N sodium hydroxide solution for 1 hour. The pH value of the solution was brought to 1.5 with concentrated hydrochloric acid and then filtered. Recrystallisation from ethanol/water yielded 58 g of the above acid, m.p. 128°-131°.
