A mixture of 1.0 g of 6,7-dihydro-5-methyl-1-oxo-8-(5-tetrazolyl)-1H,5H-benzo[ij]quinolizine-2-carboxylic acid and 5 ml (46 mmole) of phenyl isocyanate was heated at 150° C. for one hour. The mixture was then cooled and water was added. The solid was separated by filtration and recrystallized twice from aqueous N,N-dimethylformamide to provide 6,7-dihydro-5-methyl-8-[2-(5-N-anilino)-1,3,4-oxadiazolyl)]-1-oxo-1H,5H-benzo[ij]quinolizine-2-carboxylic acid solvated with N,N-dimethylformamide m.p. >300° C. Analysis: Calculated for C22H18N4O4.C3H7NO: %C, 63.1; %H, 5.3; %N, 14.7; Found: %C, 63.1; %H, 5.3; %N, 15.1.
