Procedure

Under N2 atmosphere, 27.72 g of 4-amino-α-[(tert-butylamino)methyl]-3,5-dichlorobenzyl alcohol is added to 200 ml of thionyl chloride stirred at 0-5%C. After addition is completed, the reaction mixture is stirred at ambient temperature for 3 hours. Subsequently, the mixture is evaporated to dryness in vacuo to afford 37.34 g of yellow solid, which is used as is.
