Reaction Steps
To a mixture of methyl 2-chloronicotinate (5 g), dehydrated THF (30 ml) and ethanol (30 mL) was added sodium borohydride (4.41 g) at 0° C. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight, poured into water, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with saturated brine, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (ethyl acetate/hexane) to give the title compound (3.22 g) as a white solid.
