4.0 M HCl in 1,4-dioxane (1.0 mL) was added to a solution of (S)-tert-butyl 1-(6-fluoro-1-phenyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)ethylcarbamate (12 mg, 0.034 mmol) in DCM (1 mL). After ˜2 h the reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure to dryness. The resulting solid was partitioned between DCM and satd. aq. NaHCO3 solution. The aq. layer was extracted with DCM. The organic layers were combined, dried with Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to give (S)-1-(6-fluoro-1-phenyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)ethanamine: LC-MS (ESI) m/z 256.1 [M+H]+. The product was carried on crude without purification.
