To a stirred solution of 2-(6-fluoro-5-nitro-1H-indol-2-yl)-2-methylpropan-1-ol (10.0 g) in CH2Cl2 was added TBSCl (8.9 g), imidazole (8.1 g, 0.12 mol) at room temperature. The mixture was stirred overnight. The solvent was evaporated in vacuo and the residue was purified by chromatography on silica gel (10% EtOAc in petroleum ether) to give 2-(1-(tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy)-2-methylpropan-2-yl)-6-fluoro-5-nitro-1H-indole (5.3 g, 38%). 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) 9.51 (s, 1 H), 8.31 (d, J=7.5 Hz, 1 H), 7.02 (d, J=11.7 Hz, 1 H), 6.32 (s, 1 H), 3.63 (s, 2 H), 1.35 (s, 6 H), 0.99 (s, 9 H), 0.11 (s, 6 H).
