Carbon Dioxide → Carbonic Acid
Reaction equation
[C:1](=[O:3])=[O:2].[OH2:4]>>[C:1](=[O:4])([OH:3])[OH:2].[C:1](=[O:4])([OH:3])[O-:2].[C:1](=[O:4])([O-:3])[O-:2]Participants

Procedure
Supercritical carbon dioxide extracts water from the wood based on the theory of physical-chemical removal of water. Carbon dioxide dissolves in water over a range of temperatures and pressures in accordance with Henry's Law. Carbon dioxide also undergoes chemical reaction with water to form carbonic acid, bicarbonate and carbonate anions. When carbon dioxide reacts with water, an equilibrium mixture of carbonic acid, bicarbonate and carbonate anions is formed as shown in the equation below: CO2+H2O⇄H2CO3⇄H++HCO3−⇄H++CO3−
