To (S)-tert-butyl 2-(1-(hydroxyamino)-4-(methylthio)-1-oxobutan-2-ylamino)-2-oxoethylcarbamate (200 mg, 0.62 mmol) was added 4N HCl in dioxane (1 mL). The mixture was stirred at rt for 1 h, concentrated and triturated with ether to give (S)-2-(2-aminoacetamido)-N-hydroxy-4-(methylthio)butanamide hydrochloride as a white solid after drying under vacuum (0.12 g, 75%). MS calcd for (C7H16N3O3S—H)+: 220.1; MS found: (M+H)+=220.0.
