Procedure

5-(5-fluoropyridin-2-yl)-2-(phenoxymethyl)-6,7-dihydropyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrazin-4(5H)-one (100 mg, 0.296 mmol) was dissolved in DCM (2 mL), cooled to 0° C. and treated with 1M BBr3 in DCM (1.18 mmol, 1.18 mL). The reaction was allowed to warm to room temperature and stirred for 4 h. The reaction was diluted with DCM (5 mL) and then washed sequentially with 1M HCl (2 mL), saturated aq. NaHCO3 (2 mL) and 1N NaOH (2 ml). The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated under vacuum to give A (82 mg, 85%) as an oil: LC-MS (215 nm)>98%, 324.8 (M+H).
