Procedure
A mixture of (E)-3-{1′-benzyl-4-oxo-spiro[chromane-2,4′-piperidine]-6-yl}-N-hydroxy-acrylamide hydrochloride (60 mg, 0.14 mmol) and NaBH4 (17.6 mg, 0.459 mmol) in MeOH (5 ml) was stirred at RT. After 3 h, the solution was evaporated under vacuum. The crude residue was purified by preparative HPLC to give (E)-3-{1′-benzyl-4-hydroxy-spiro[chromane-2,4′-piperidine]-6-yl}-N-hydroxy-acrylamide (45 mg) as its trifluoro acetate salt.
