1.612 g of the sodium salt of Example 35 was added to 4 ml of 98% formic acid and immediately after, 4 ml of distilled water were added thereto and the mixture was stirred for 15 minutes at 40° C. The heterogenous mixture was triturated for 30 minutes at room temperature and was vacuum filtered at 20° C. The filter was rinsed twice with 1.6 ml of 50% formic acid and the filtrate was evaporated to dryness. The residue was taken up in 5 ml of distilled w ater and the mixture was vacuum filtered at room temperature. The recovered product was rinsed with distilled water and then with ether and dried to obtain 300 mg of the syn isomer of 3-acetoxymethyl-7-[2-(2-amino-4-thiazolyl)-2-vinyloxyimino-acetamido]-ceph-3-eme-4-carboxylic acid. Reextraction of insolubles with 50% formic acid recovered another 0.214 g of the said product.
