Procedure
1-(Chloromethyl)-2-(3-fluorophenoxy)benzene (26.5 g.) was dissolved in 300 ml of ethanol; a solution of sodium cyanide (7.8 g.) in 15 ml of water was added, and the resulting mixture was heated to reflux overnight. The ethanol was evaporated, the residue taken up in water, extracted with ether and the combined ether extracts were dried and concentrated to give the title compound. ##STR13##
