Procedure

To 100 ml absolute ethanol was added 6-chloropurine riboside (5.0 g, 0.017 mole), CaCO3 (3.5 g, 0.035 mole), and N-methyl-N-(1H-pyrrol-1-yl)amine (3.3 g, 0.035 mole). After stirring at 80° C. for three hours, the mixture was filtered, then evaporated to a solid which was eluted on a silica gel column with 5% methanol/dichloromethane via high pressure liquid chromatography to give a solid after evaporation, 4.0 g, m.p. 195°-197° C. This material was recrystallized from acetonitrile to give 2.4 g (41%) of N-methyl-N-(1H-pyrrol-1-yl)-9-β-D-ribofuranosyl-9H-purin-6-amine, m.p. 198°-199° C.
