Methanol → L-Threonine methyl ester
Reaction equation
S(Cl)(Cl)=O.[NH2:5][C@H:6]([C:10]([OH:12])=[O:11])[C@@H:7]([CH3:9])[OH:8].[CH3:13]O>>[NH2:5][C@@H:6]([C@H:7]([OH:8])[CH3:9])[C:10]([O:12][CH3:13])=[O:11]Participants

Procedure
109 ml (1.5 mol) of thionyl chloride are added dropwise at 0° C. with strong cooling to 240 ml of methanol. 60 g (0.5 mol) of L-threonine are then added and the mixture is stirred at room temperature for 2 days, a clear solution resulting. After concentration, 85 g of a colorless oil are obtained.
