A mixture of 1-[2-{5-(4-hydroxy-3, 5-dimethoxyphenyl)-(2E, 4E)-2, 4-pentadienoylamino}ethyl]-4-(3-indolyl)-piperidine (7.0 g), fumaric acid (1.708 g) and methanol (200 ml) was refluxed. After the solid was completely dissolved, the mixture was filtered and the filtrate was allowed to stand at ambient temperature. The resulting precipitate was collected by filtration, washed with methanol (10 ml) and dried to give 1-[2-{5-(4-hydroxy-3, 5-dimethoxyphenyl)-(2E, 4E)-2, 4-pentadienoylamino}ethyl]-4-(3-indolyl)piperidine fumarate (7.58 g).
