2-(1-Ethoxycarbonylmethylpyridinium-4-yl)-s-triazolo[1,5-a]pyridine bromide (5.0 g), prepared as in Example 4 and dimethyl sulphate (5 ml) were mixed together, heated slowly to 150° C. and kept at that temperature for 30 minutes. The mixture was then cooled and triturated with isopropanol to give an off-white solid. Filtration, washing with ether and drying yielded 5.20 g of 1-methyl-2-(1-ethoxycarbonylmethylpyridinium-4- yl)-s-triazolo[1,5-a]pyridinium bromide methyl sulphate, m.p. 156°-158° C.
