Sodium borohydride (28 mg, 0.74 mmol), followed by MeOH (0.25 mL), was added to a solution of 7-[(R)-2-oxo-6-((E)-3-oxo-oct-1-enyl)-piperidin-1-yl]-heptanoic acid methyl ester (55 mg, 0.15 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (0.75 mL) at 0° C. The mixture was allowed to warm to rt. After 1 h at rt, the reaction was quenched with aqueous HCl (1.0 M, 2 mL) and extracted with EtOAc (3×10 mL). The combined organic phase was washed with brine (10 mL) then dried (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated in vacuo to afford 55 mg (99%) of the title compound.
