Reaction Steps

To a stirring solution of 2-[2-methanesulfonyl-6-(3-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-pyrimidin-4-yl-amino]-ethanol (493 mg) in dimethyl sulfoxide (15 ml) was added sodium cyanide (100 mg). The resulting solution was stirred at room temperature for 72 hrs. After diluting with ethyl acetate (100 ml) and washed with water (100 ml), brine (100 ml), dried over MgSO4 and concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound as a pale yellow solid (380 mg).
