Compounds 158 (100.3 mg, 0.219 mmol) and maleic acid (25.4 mg, 0.219 mmol) were dissolved in CH3OH (2 mL) and stirred at room temperature under a N2 atmosphere for about 75 ml. The reaction mixture was filtered through a cotton plug and concentrated in vacuo to afford a solid 167, 0.1239 g, mp 99-100° C. In a qualitative test, this material was water-soluble. HPLC: Inertsil ODS-3V C18, 40:30:30 [KH2PO4 (0.01M, pH 3.2):CH3OH:CH3CN], 264 nm, Rt 7.7 min 87.9% purity.
