A solution of 2-[1-(2,2-dimethoxy-ethylamino)-2-methyl-propyl]-3-naphthalen-1-ylmethyl-3H-pyrido-[3,4-d]pyrimidin-4-one (522 mg, 1.17 mmol), benzoyl chloride (247 mg, 1.76 mmol), and triethylamine (179 mg, 1.76 mmol) in methylene chloride (10 mL) is stirred at room temperature for 18 h. The reaction is washed sequentially with 0.5 N HCl, water, 5% NaHCO3, water, and brine. The organic layer is dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated to yield the title compound, N-(2,2-dimethoxy-ethyl)-N-[2-methyl-1-(3-naphthalen-1-ylmethyl-4-oxo-3,4-dihydro-pyrido[3,4-d]pyrimidin-2-yl)-propyl]-benzamide.
