A mixture of 4-chloro-6-(4-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-pyrimidine, (Example 2(a), Method A), (520 mg, 2.0 mmol), 3-acetamidophenol (320 mg, 2.1 mmol, Aldrich) and K2CO3 (368 mg, 2.7 mmol) in DMF (10 mL) was heated at 80° C. for 8 h. The mixture was allowed to cool to room temperature, poured into H2O, extracted with EtOAc and the combined organic layers were evaporated onto SiO2. Purification by flash silica gel chromatography with EtOAc/hexanes (0:1→2:3) as eluant gave the title compound as a white amorphous solid. Mp: 202-205° C. MS (ESI, pos ion.) m/z: 374 (M+1).
