Procedure
2.5 ml of distilled ethyl chloroformate were added to a mixture of 5 g of 3-(4-chloro-3-trifluoromethylphenyl)-1-benzyl-1,2,5,6-tetrahydropyridine and 55 ml of anhydrous, distilled benzene and the mixture was refluxed with stirring under an inert atmosphere for 5 hours. The mixture was evaporated to dryness to obtain 5 g of ethyl 3-(4-chloro-3-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-1,2,5,6-tetrahydropyridine-1-carboxylate.
