A stirred mixture of 1.38 g. (0.005 mole) of 1-ethyl-1,2-dihydro-4-hydroxy-7-methyl-2-oxo-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (prepared as in Example 1) and 0.32 g. (0.01 mole) of hydrazine in 30 ml. of ethanol was heated under reflux for 1 hour. The mixture was filtered and the filter cake was triturated with 100 ml. of 20% aqueous acetic acid. The insoluble material was collected, air dried and was recrystallized from ethanol to give 0.7 g. of the title compound, m.p. 211°-13° C.
