Procedure

A stirred mixture of 3,4-dihydro-7-[2,2,2-trifluoro-1-hydroxy-1-(trifluoromethyl)ethyl]-2H-1,4-benzothiazine and ethyl propionylacetate can be heated in an oil bath to give 3,4-dihydro-1-(1,3-dioxopentyl)-7-[2,2,2-trifluoro-1-hydroxy-1-(trifluoromethyl)ethyl]-2H-1,4-benzothiazine.
