PTSA (0.62 eq) was added to a solution of (S)-tert-butyl 4-(2,2-dimethoxyethylamino)-3-(4-methoxy-2,6-dimethylphenylsulfonamido)-4-oxobutanoate (1.26 mmol) in dioxane (12 ml) and the mixture was stirred for 16 h at room temperature. The solvent was removed under vacuum and the residue taken up in ethyl acetate. The organic phase was extracted with water and saturated sodium chloride solution, dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated to small volume under vacuum. The crude product was processed by column chromatography. Yield: 35%
