Reaction Steps
To a solution of 1,1-dioxo-3-methyl-3-thietanamine trifluoroacetic acid salt [the product of step 1] (598 mg, 2.40 mmol) and triethylamine (0.836 ml, 6.00 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (6 ml) cooled at 0-5° C. is added a solution of 5-chloro-3-methyl-2-sulfinylaminobenzoyl chloride [the product of step 2] (600 mg, 2.4 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (4 ml). The reaction mixture is stirred at room temperature overnight, and then poured into water. After extraction with ethyl acetate, the combined organic layers are washed with brine, dried (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated. The crude product is purified by column chromatography on silica gel (ethyl acetate/hexane 1:4) to afford the title benzamide [compound D54 from Table D] (410 mg, 56%) as a white solid with a melting point of 79-82° C.
