Dimethyl 7-(3-bromophenyl)-3-oxo-9-azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane-2,4-dicarboxylate (89) and NaCl (61.22 g, 1.05 mol) in DMSO (200 ml) and water (10 ml) was placed into a preheated oil bath at 160° C. After stirring for 14 h, the solution was cooled to ambient temperature and exhaustively extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic extracts were dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated to afford compound 90.
