2 M hydrochloric acid (20 ml) was added to a solution of the product from stage 8 (176 mg, 0.255 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (20 ml) and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 d. The reaction mixture was then stirred at 50° C. for 15 h and then at room temperature for a further 16 h. The mixture was then rendered alkaline with 2 M sodium hydroxide solution (30 ml) and the phases were separated. The aqueous phase was extracted with diethyl ether (3×10 ml). The combined organic phases were dried with sodium sulfate and concentrated i. vac. The crude product 151 mg) was purified by flash chromatography with methylene chloride/methanol (97:3).
